Diamond Herpanacine of PA Goes to Washington, D.C., for Natural Products Day

Meets with Offices of Rep. Allyson Schwartz and

Sen. Patrick Toomey & Sen. Robert Casey

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Natural Products Association (NPA) hosted Leslie Diamond and Deborah Jacobs of Diamond Herpanacine of PA, along with other NPA members, at the 16th Annual Natural Products Day inWashington,D.C., on March 19. Retailers and suppliers, both large and small, from across the country met with Congress to talk about legislative activity that affects their businesses. Attendees ranged from industry veterans like Leslie and Deborah, who have long advocated for the industry to rookies making their voices heard on Capitol Hill for the first time.

“It is important to take the time to do this,” said Leslie Diamond, President of Diamond Herpanacine of PA. “Natural Products Day gives us the opportunity to thank our congressional allies and gain more support. It’s especially vital that we educate new members of Congress about our issues so that consumers continue to have access to safe, affordable products.”

During their meetings, attendees highlighted NPA’s call for a national standard for GMO labeling of foods. They also discussed the Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act, which would help get dangerous products off the market, and the Family and Retirement Health Investment Act, which would allow consumers to buy dietary supplements using their Flexible Savings Account and Health Savings Account dollars. In addition, attendees expressed concerns about the Dietary Supplement and Labeling Act, which would create unnecessary regulations for supplements.

The day ended with a reception on Capitol Hill where NPA presented Congressional Champion Awards to several legislators:

  • Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah
  • Sen. Mike Enzi of Wyoming
  • Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa
  • Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah
  • Rep. Frank Pallone of New Jersey
  • Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado

My Battle With Psoriasis

June 7th, 2012

I’ve suffered from psoriasis for most of my adult life and for whatever reason I chose to deal with it. It would reach a point that I’d run to the dermatologist for something topical, but it never worked, the outbreak always came back. Thankfully it was localized on my scalp, so you couldn’t see that I had a skin problem, but I knew it was there and was always embarrassed.

Last year, for Mother’s Day, my husband and children took me out for dinner. I’ve never had food allergies, but I seem to have developed one. I had the vegetable that was offered that night and within the first few bites, I was feeling ill. I knew something was wrong, but honestly, didn’t attribute the way I was feeling to a reaction to something I ate. A few weeks later I had zucchini again and instantly started to feel ill and knew that zucchini was the culprit. Unfortunately, this time with the reaction my face swelled and within a few minutes all around my mouth the psoriasis popped out… and it didn’t go away! A few days later, a friend of mine put a bottle of Herpanacine in my hand and said, “just try it… give it a few weeks, you won’t regret it”. Skeptical but desperate, I gave it a try.

After two weeks my face was completely clear, even those pesky breakouts I got from stress, or hormonal imbalance, were gone! My scalp took quite a bit longer, but I stayed with it. From May until August I continued to take the maximum dose, 3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, bought a few more bottles and waited. I’m sure my skin cleared much more quickly than I realized, but when I finally did take notice that I was no longer scratching, I was thrilled! Once I was aware that my skin was clear, I ran out and bought shampoo: a non-medicated, lovely smelling shampoo! I really thought my psoriasis would come back. I thought I would use this shampoo and my skin would get bad again, but it didn’t happen. I continue to use any shampoo, conditioner and hair product and my scalp stays clear.

I will take Herpanacine for the rest of my life. My skin is clear and continues to look better because with each dose, it improves the tone and texture of my skin. I’m healthier because of the benefits it has on my immune system. Stress and chocolate are two triggers for skin outbreaks and since I can’t seem to get away from either, I really need to continue taking Herpanacine.

I want to be honest, I do work for Diamond Herpanacine, now, but I didn’t when I started taking Herpanacine and my story is true. I wanted to work for this company because I believe in this product. If you have psoriasis or any other skin condition that plagues you, give Herpanacine a try. I know you won’t be sorry.

NPA Sets the Record Straight with Dateline NBC’s Inaccurate Reporting

March 16th, 2012

NPA Sets the Record Straight with Dateline NBC

Dear NPA members:

“Dateline NBC” plans to air a story about the dietary supplement industry this Sunday, March 18, at 7 p.m. Eastern. Our understanding is that it will focus on the issue of dry labbing, which involves laboratories that seem to have all the right equipment to do the proper testing of dietary supplements but do not actually conduct any testing, yet issue fabricated reports on the submitted products. Dry labbing is part of the larger issue of dietary supplement adulteration and label accuracy.

The Natural Products Association, as the leading representative of the dietary supplement industry, has taken several proactive steps in response to Dateline NBCs story.

First, here are key points you can share with any customers who may be concerned about dietary supplements after viewing the program:

  • Products that contain undeclared drug ingredients are illegal drugs, notdietary supplements.
  • Selling products that contain illegal substances is a crime. Those products have no place in the legitimate marketplace.
  • We support government action against any laboratories that use improper testing methods.
  • Consumers can trust what they read on the labels of dietary supplements. We strongly support efforts to make sure that products contain what the labels claim and are not contaminated.
  • Dietary supplements have an excellent safety record. They help millions of Americans address nutritional deficiencies and maintain and improve their health.

Second, NPA has submitted a statement to Dateline NBC that highlighted these and other important points (below). Dateline NBC has told us they will quote from the statement during the show. NPA was not given the opportunity to view the segment in advance.

Finally, NPA will release our full statement to Dateline NBC to the media Monday morning. We believe it is vitally important that consumers hear loud and clear the message that dietary supplements are both safe and beneficial for the health of millions.

This message will be posted on the NPA website and our social media channels for consumers, and will be distributed to you.

Thank you for your support and membership in NPA.

Sincerely,

Jeff Wright
President

NPA Statement about Dietary Supplements for Dateline NBC

The Natural Products Association (NPA) is the leading representative of the dietary supplement industry with over 1,900 members, including suppliers and retailers of vitamins and other dietary supplements. NPA President Jeff Wright comments on the regulation and safety of dietary supplements:

Consumers can trust what they read on the labels of dietary supplements. We share the concern about the issue of ensuring that products contain what the label claims and are not contaminated. This issue is highlighted, from time to time, in most consumer products industries, including foods, drugs and toys.

The Natural Products Association supports the goal of superior quality within our industry, other industries and the government. Fortunately, consumers are smart enough to understand that a few or occasional lapses in quality assurance should not translate into suspicion of an entire category of products, especially one with a strong history of safety. Otherwise, people may not eat eggs, spinach, tomatoes or pistachios today.

NPA has long supported government and industry actions to both produce dietary supplements according to good manufacturing practices and eliminate drugs wrongly labeled as supplements. Products that contain undeclared drug ingredients are not dietary supplements. These products are illegal drugs, and they have no place in the legitimate marketplace.

Selling products that contain illegal substances is a crime. Anyone who manufactures or sells these illegal products intentionally should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

NPA has been steadfast in its support for increased resources for the Food and Drug Administration. We also support government action against any laboratories that may use improper testing methods. We fully support strong rules to make sure that whats on the label is whats in the bottle. NPA has been a leader in industry efforts to attain this goal through our TruLabel and GMP certification programs.

Its important to note that dietary supplements help millions of Americans address nutritional deficiencies and maintain and improve their health. NPA provides information about the regulation, safety and benefits of supplements online at NPAinfo.org/consumers.

Why Do We Need Vitamins?

August 22nd, 2011

Why Do We Need Vitamins?

By Dr. Wayne C. Diamond N.D.

Vitamins are complex molecules that we need to carry out most of the functions in our bodies.  Many opponents of natural healing and vitamin therapy say we should get all the vitamins and nutritional benefits needed from our food.

About hundred years ago, when pollution in its many forms and various chemical toxins were not present, we could get all that we needed nutritionally from our food.  But as the twentieth century brought thousands of pollutant forms into our environment, nutritional science dramatically changed.  No longer was good food pure enough to supply what our bodies needed to live.  The reason for this phenomenon is both simple and complex.

Quite simply, the human body cannot fully absorb nutrients that are continually intermingled with the vast amount of pollutants, toxins and pesticides that we face on a daily basis.

Some of the most problematic of these pollutants are the hydrocarbons emitted from buses, automobiles and truck engines.  There is a growing body of scientific data that has proven these engine emissions cause acute allergies in chemically hyper-sensitive people. In those of us who have normal sensitivity, they can cause a great deal of difficulty in their ability to break down high in protein foods or some carbohydrates, as well as foods high in mineral content such as calcium, iron or zinc.  These cannot be absorbed in human tissue when mixed with hydro-carbons.

Almost all food has some water content.  This water, when mixed with digestive enzymes allow for proper digestion.  When hydrocarbons mix with nutritional fluids, a combative biochemical reaction occurs and much of the nutrients become un-absorbable by the body.  They are propelled into the elimination systems.  The body then starves for these nutrients.

For these reasons, along with other complex issues, a regime of the right vitamin supplements in the right amounts will provide our bodies with what is essential to survive and stay healthy
